After downloading the website files (.tar.gz) and the database file (.sql.gz or .tar.gz) to your local computer, the next steps for restoring them generally involve re-uploading and processing them through your Hostinger hPanel.

Here is the step-by-step process you would likely follow:
Step 1: Re-Upload the Backup Files
You need to upload both files back onto your server, typically using the File Manager in hPanel:
  1. Log in to your Hostinger hPanel and navigate to File Manager.
  2. Navigate to the public_html directory of the specific domain you are restoring.
  3. Upload both the renamed website file (WebsiteName_Files_Backup_Date.tar.gz) and the database file (WebsiteName_Database_Backup_Date.sql.gz) into that folder.
Step 2: Extract the Website Files Archive
Once the website archive is uploaded to public_html:
  1. In the File Manager, select the website .tar.gz file.
  2. Look for an Extract or Unarchive function within the File Manager interface.
  3. Choose to extract the contents directly into the current directory (public_html). This replaces your existing website files with the backup versions.
Step 3: Restore the Database
Restoring the database is done separately using phpMyAdmin or a dedicated database restoration tool in hPanel:
  1. Go back to your hPanel dashboard and navigate to Databases > phpMyAdmin.
  2. Select the correct database associated with that specific website from the list on the left.
  3. Click the Import tab at the top of the phpMyAdmin interface.
  4. Click Choose File and select the database backup file (.sql.gz or .tar.gz) you uploaded to public_html earlier (you can browse the server from here, or select the one from your local computer).
  5. Ensure the format is set to SQL.
  6. Click Go at the bottom of the page to start the import process.
Step 4: Verify and Test
After both the files are extracted and the database is imported:
  1. Clear your website’s cache (using your caching plugin’s settings or the “Flush Cache” option in hPanel).
  2. Clear your browser’s cache.
  3. Visit your website to ensure everything is functioning correctly and all data is present.
A Simpler Alternative (If available on your plan)
Many Hostinger plans offer an automated restoration feature within the Backups section, which simplifies this process significantly:
  1. Go to Files > Backups in hPanel.
  2. Select the desired backup date from the calendar.
  3. Choose whether you want to restore Website Files or Databases.
  4. Select the specific domain/database and click Restore. The Hostinger system handles the uploading, extracting, and importing steps for you.
Using this automated method is much faster and less error-prone than manual file management.
